RESOLUTION NO. 2011-06
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY
CLUB, TEXAS SUPPORTING TARRANT COUNTY IN ITS EFFORTS TO
PROMOTE OBESITY PREVENTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the cost of health care spending attributable to obesity for the State of
Texas is estimated at over $5.7 billion; and
WHEREAS, Heart Disease, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Diseases are the top three
causes of death in Tarrant County and each includes obesity as a primary risk factor; and
WHEREAS, an estimated 28.2% of adults and 19% of children in Tarrant County are
obese; and
WHEREAS, increased physical activity and greater access to nutritious foods are key
interventions to preventing or reducing obesity; and
WHEREAS, only 47.4% of adults in Tarrant County meet the US Department of Health
and Human Services recommendations for physical activity; and
WHEREAS, only 25.7% of adults in Tarrant County consume 5 or more servings of fruits
and vegetables per day;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS THAT:
The Council hereby request that the 2011 Texas Legislature review ali physical activity
and access to nutritious foods legislation thoughtfully and deliberately with the intention of
increasing physical activity and nutritious food access for children and adults.
FURTHER, that we are resolved to pledge our own support in the development of
organizational and municipal policies which address the need for increased physical activity and
access to nutritious foods at home, work, school, and in the community.
Passed and adopted by the Town Council of the Town of Trophy Club, Texas, this the
