PROCLAMATION NO. 2016-06
A PROCLAMATION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY
CLUB, TEXAS, TO RECOGNIZE MAY 5, 2016 AS THE DAY OF PRAYER IN
TROPHY CLUB; RECOGNIZING THAT 2016 IS THE 65TH CONSECUTIVE
ANNUAL OBSERVANCE OF THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, our nation was founded upon a firm bedrock of faith and throughout our
history, Americans have prayed as a means of seeking comfort, giving thanks and asking for
guidance during times of strength and times of weakness, in moments of joy and moments of
despair; and
WHEREAS, public prayer and national days of prayer have a long and significant
history in American tradition dating back to the first call to prayer in 1775 when the
Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation; and
WHEREAS, these times of national supplication were made official in 1952 when
President Harry Truman signed a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress which enacted
legislation setting aside an annual day of prayer for the nation, and in 1988 this law was
amended permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May; and
WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans and is a day that
transcends differences, bringing together citizens to honor God and give Him thanks for the
many liberties and blessings we have received, among them the freedom to gather, worship
and pray; and
WHEREAS, Thursday, May 5, 2016, is the 65th observance of the National Day of
Prayer with the theme "Wake Up America" as inspired by Isaiah 58:1 a which says, "Shout it
aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet"; and
WHEREAS, on this day leaders and citizens across our nation and state will join
together to seek the face of Almighty God to acknowledge our dependence on Him, to seek
His grace, guidance, strength and protection upon us as a people and a nation; and to pray
for peace throughout the world during these trying and challenging times.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, C. Nick Sanders, in conjunction with the Town Council of the
Town of Trophy Club, Texas by the Power vested in me as Mayor of Trophy Club, Texas,
hereby proclaim Thursday, May 5, 2016, as a DAY OF PRAYER in Trophy Club to coincide
with the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER and that this proclamation shall take effect from and
after its date of passage, in accordance with law; and it is so proclaimed.
