CAROL SUE TOMBARI
Carol Tombari has worked on energy efficiency and renewable energy issues for
more than 30 years. Most recently she was employed at the U.S. Department of
Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado,
where she specialized in electric utility and local economic development issues
related to deployment of renewable energy technologies. Previously she was
president of Mountain Energy Consultation, a small firm whose practice regarded
policies and programs to facilitate deployment of energy efficiency and renewable
energy. In this capacity, she led three delegations of State Energy Officials to the
People's Republic of China.
Ms. Tombari directed the energy efficiency and renewable energy programs of
the State of Texas for a dozen years, working for two governors and serving as
an electric utility regulator. She also was natural resources advisor to the Texas
Lieutenant Governor and was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Energy to
DOE's State Energy Advisory Board. In addition, she was appointed by the
Assistant Secretary of Energy to chair a Congressionally -created statutory
committee to assess potential roles of public-private partnerships in capitalizing
renewable energy ventures.
Ms. Tombari is the author of Power of the People: America's New Electricity
Choices and has received recognition for her achievements. Most recently, she
was the 2009 recipient of the Colorado Renewable Energy Society's Larson-
Notari Award and a recipient of special recognition by the National Association of
State Energy Officials in 2011. She was elected to the Board of Directors of the
Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association, where she currently serves.
She also serves on the Board of TX ROSE (Ratepayers' Organization to Save
Energy).
Ms. Tombari holds degrees in Geography (Middlebury College) and Public Affairs
(University of Texas). She worked in case analysis at the Harvard School of
Business and served in Ethiopia in the U.S. Peace Corps. She has four very
cool grandchildren (and counting), and believes that sustainability is a
fundamental family value as well as offering prime local economic -development
opportunities.
