Strategic Link: Improve the aesthetic and recreational value of the Town Background and Explanation: The current playground located at Independence Park West was installed in 2003. Most of the playground components are no longer manufactured and poses a challenge if repairs are needed. Additionally, the wood chips (fibar) material utilized as a surface will be replaced with a rubber surface, like what was installed at Harmony Parks newest playground. The playground wood chips are applied annually; the potential cost to apply new wood chips at Independence Park West is approximately $2000 - $2500 annually. Financial Considerations: Staff obtained two estimates from vendors and will be requesting to utilize Parkland Dedication Funds for the purchase of the new playground. There is approximately $550,000 available in Parkland Dedication Funds. Gametime – Total Recreation Products - $176,277.83 (potential grant available of approximately $42,000) Playground Solutions of Texas - $149, 951.12 Page 2 of 2 Legal Review: N/A Board/Commission/ or Committee Recommendation: N/A Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends replacing the playground at Independence Park West with one of the options presented to the Parks and Recreation Board.
