Proclamation 2023-01 Kathy Whitworthi3rodamation 2023-01 Town of Tropbp QCtnb, Texao A PROCLAMATION OF THE TROPHY CLUB TOWN COUNCIL RECOGNIZING KATHY WHITWORTH. WHEREAS, Kathy Whitworth was born Kathrynne Anne Whitworth in Monahans, Texas in 1939 and started playing golf at age 14; and, in 1958, she turned pro, joining the LPGA at age 19; and WHEREAS, Between 1962 and 1985, Kathy Whitworth won 88 tournaments on the LPGA Tour, more than anyone else on the LPGA or PGA Tours; and Kathy Whitworth was also a runner-up 93 times giving her 181 top - two finishes; and WHEREAS, Ms. Whitworth has also been honored twice as AP Athlete of the Year, and she has been inducted into the LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame, Texas Sports and Golf Hall of Fame, and the Women's Sports Foundation Hall of Fame, and in 2006, she was named the PGA First Lady of Golf; and WHEREAS, the Kathy Whitworth Classic has been hosted at the Trophy Club Country Club for the past 21 years, with the 22nd annual event scheduled for June 2023, supporting junior girls' golf and inspiring young women to embrace confidence, strong values, and responsibility; and WHEREAS, one of the two golf courses located in the Town of Trophy Club is named in honor of Kathy Whitworth. The Trophy Club Country Club houses many of Kathy's trophies and golf mementos in the Whitworth Dining Room. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alicia L. Fleury, Mayor of the Town of Trophy Club and on behalf of the Town Council hereby recognize the remarkable achievements of Kathy Whitworth and gratefully acknowledge her commitment to young women; and we hereby extend our sincerest condolences to her family.
