PROCLAMATION NO. 2002 - 04
MAY 2, 2002 AS DAY OF PRAYER IN TROPHY CLUB
A PROCLAMATION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY
CLUB, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING THURSDAY, MAY 2, 2002 AS A DAY OF
PRAYER IN TROPHY CLUB TO COINCIDE WITH THE NATIONAL DAY OF
PRAYER.
WHEREAS, prayer is a fundamental part of our national heritage, with the first
National Day of Prayer proclaimed by the Continental Congress in 1775; and
WHEREAS, the United States Congress in 1952 approved a joint resolution
setting aside a day each year for all Americans to pray and reaffirm the spiritual
principles upon which this nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, across our nation on May 2"d Americans of all faiths will join in
united ' prayer to acknowledge our dependence on God, to give thanks for blessings
received, to request healing for wounds endured, and to ask God to guide our leaders and
bring wholeness to the United States and her citizens; and
WHEREAS, the theme of the 2002 National Day of Prayer is "America United
Under God," based on Psalm 46: 1, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help
in trouble;" and
WHEREAS, it is eminently fitting and proper that we in Trophy Club join the
nation in observing a day when we seek the face of Almighty God to direct our paths in
the days and years ahead,' and to acknowledge the need for strengthening of religious and
moral values in our land.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SCOTT SMITH, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TOWN
COUNCIL OF THE "TOWN OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS, BY THE POWER
VESTED IN ME AS MAYOR OF TROPHY CLUB, HEREBY PROCLAIM
THURSDAY, MAY 2, 2002, AS A DAY OF PRAYER IN TROPHY CLUB TO
COINCIDE WITH THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRA AND THAT THIS
PROCLAMATION SHALL TAKE EFFECT FROM D AFTER ITS DATE OF
PASSAGE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH LAW, AND IS SOTRO ED.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Town Counc' of the own Trophy Club, Texas,
this 15`x' day of April, 2002.
