RES 080691-1TOWN OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS RESOLUTION NO. 080691-1 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS HONORING THE LIFE, TALENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF JEROME H. SVORE; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the life of Jerome H. Svore has been one of continuous service and dedication to the public, as reflected below: In 1938, after obtaining an engineering degree from the University of North Dakota and a master's degree in sanitary engineering from Harvard University, he served as an engineer with the North Dakota State Health Department; In 1953 the Governor of North Dakota appointed him State Health Officer; In 1957 he joined the U.S. Public Health Service, from which he retired in 1976 at the rank of Assistant Surgeon General, a two -star Rear Admiral; While with the Public Health Service, --he moved to Texas, where from 1959 through 1966 he was in charge of all federal water pollution activities in the five - state region based in Dallas, Texas, one of the Service's ten regions; --he set up, in 1967, the National Center for Urban and Industrial Health in Cincinnati, Ohio, with five national environmental programs in his jurisdiction; --following the transfer in 1970 of all pollution control to the Environmental Protection Agency, he developed the EPA office in Kansas City, being at that time promoted to the rank of Assistant Surgeon General; --and while in Kansas City, he was appointed by President Gerald Ford as Chairman of the Federal Executive Board, which was comprised of the chief executives of all federal agencies headquartered in Kansas City; Following retirement from the U.S. Public Health Service, he returned to Texas, eventually moving to Trophy Club in 1980, from which date he gave continuous voluntary service to this community, serving --as a member of the Board and as President of the Trophy Club Municipal Utility District No. 1, during which time he was instrumental in improving the District's water plant facilities, constructing the District's administration building, establishing the fire department and expanding the wastewater treatment plant; -1- --on the Board of Governors for the Trophy Club Country Club; --as a member of the Trophy Club-Southlake Merger Task Force; --as a member of the Town Administrative Committee; and --as a member of the Town Drainage Task Force; and WHEREAS, along with Ruth, his wife of 52 years, he was a leader in and for the community of Trophy Club, having had the vision to enable Trophy Club to become the community that it is today; and WHEREAS, Jerome H. Svore passed away on August 4, 1991; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Town Council to express by the adoption of this Resolution its thanks for the life, talents and contributions of Jerome H. Svore. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS: Section 1. That the Town of Trophy Club, Texas acknowledges and gives thanks for the life of Jerome H. Svore and for the gift of his talents and unparalleled service to this Town. Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its date of passage.
