RESOLUTION NO. R 93-10
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN
OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS OPPOSING LEGISLATION
PROPOSED BY THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE MANDATING
REQUIRED SEX EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS
IN TEXAS PUBLIC SCHOOLS; DIRECTING THAT COPIES
OF THIS RESOLUTION BE DELIVERED TO CERTAIN
DESIGNATED PERSONS; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, there has been introduced in the Texas Legislature a
bill which would require sex education programs for all students in
Texas public schools, grades K-12; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Trophy Club, Texas
opposes the adoption of any such legislation, and further opposes
any attempt by the Legislature, the Commissioner of Education, the
State Board of Education, or any State agency to adopt or mandate
any program for Texas public schools which usurps parents' rights
to receive notification regarding issues affecting their children;
and
WHEREAS, it is the firm belief of the Town Council that local
communities should be allowed to determine the appropriate
curriculum for courses dealing with sex education and human
sexuality, and that any attempt to legislate such programs on a
statewide basis should be staunchly rebuked; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council encourages citizens of the Town to
become involved in the legislative process at the State level by
making their position known by those who represent them at the
State level.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN
OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS:
Section 1. The Town Council of the Town of Trophy Club, Texas
hereby declares that the above and foregoing preamble is true and
correct and is made a part hereof as if copied herein in its
entirety.
Section 2. The Mayor shall have delivered an executed copy of
this Resolution to Governor Ann Richards, Lt. Governor Bob Bullock,
Speaker of the House Pete Laney, all State Representatives and
Senators who represent the area comprising the Town, Texas
Commissioner of Education Dr. Lionel Meno, and all members of the
Texas State Board of Education.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after
its date of passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Town Council of the Town of Trophy
Club, Texas this the 2oth day of Alari 1 1 1993.
