RESOLUTION NO. 2002 - 04
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TROPHY
CLUB, TEXAS, REQUESTING THAT THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION EXPEDITE ITS PLAN FOR THE WIDENING OF STATE
HIGHWAY 114 FROM INTERSTATE 35W TO HIGHWAY 287; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Town Council finds that the traffic on State Highway 114 is increasing
at an alarming rate;
WHEREAS, State Highway 114 west of Interstate Highway 35 is a major highway that
remains a two-lane road and development in the Metroplex continues to cause an increase in use
of this transportation corridor;
WHEREAS, State Highway 114 carries more than thirty percent (30%) of the truck
traffic supplying aggregate to the Metroplex; and also serves as an access route for area
attractions such as the Texas Motor Speedway;
WHEREAS, the combination of truck traffic, development, and an increase in the
number of major events at Texas Motor Speedway has the potential of seriously affecting both
eastbound and westbound traffic flow on Highway 114, including traffic to and from Highway
287 and Interstate 35; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Town of Trophy Club must continue to use and cross this
hazardous highway and, among other detrimental effects, the increased traffic flow could result
in the closure of public schools and school events in the Town of Trophy Club.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF TROPHY CLUB, TEXAS:
Section 1. The above premises are found to be true and correct and are hereby
incorporated into the text of this Resolution.
Section 2. The Town Council calls for an expedited and concerted effort on the part
of the Texas Highway Department of Transportation to complete the plan for the widening of
State Highway 114 from Interstate 35W to Highway 287, purchase the right-of-way for the
project, and proceed to final design and implementation of the plan with all possible dispatch.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall become effective from and after its date of
passage in accordance with law.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Town Council of the Town of Trophy Club, Texas,
this 21" day of January 2002.
